“I was delighted when Sweet For Addicts asked my permission to perform my play “Rebellion” once again. They had premiered the piece in 2016 to coincide with the centenary of the Easter Rising. “Rebellion” tells the story of a family in contemporary Glasgow unearthing lost history. These shocking discoveries of events in the revolutionary period around the Easter Rising unleashes a series of pent up forces that unfold as the play reaches a dramatic climax. “Rebellion” also looks at what tools a modern revolutionary would use to take down the powerful today.I think the play is as relevant to modern Scotland as it was when the curtain was first raised on it.When I mingled with the audiences after the first performance and they expressed amazement as the high production values of an “amateur” theatre company. That is because Sweet For Addicts is a highly professional Not For Profit group working to help people with addiction issues through drama. Consequently, many of those involved are trained theatre professionals and it shows. With Mark Williamson directing and Angela Gascoine stage managing then I know that my play is in good hands. Moreover, when I learned the new performances would be in Websters Theatre I had a very good feeling of the combination of venue and production company.”
